Dennis M. Mersberger
Dennis M. Mersberger co-founded Schmergel & Mersberger, PLC in 2004 with a special interest in providing top notch criminal defense representation. He hails from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area, but has made Alexandria, Virginia his home. Mr. Mersberger focuses his work almost exclusively on criminal trials and criminal appeals in the state and federal courts. Mr. Mersberger has developed a reputation as a zealous criminal defense attorney, defending both adult and juvenile criminal and traffic matters.
For more than 20 years, Mr. Mersberger has handled cases throughout the Northern Virginia jurisdictions that include the City of Alexandria, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Falls Church, Fauquier, Loudoun County, the City of Manassas, Prince William County and Stafford as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in the Alexandria and Richmond Divisions of Virginia.
With a vision towards building a complete criminal and traffic defense practice, Mr. Mersberger has also appeared as appellate counsel in the Virginia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Virginia. Mr. Mersberger is a member of the Criminal Law section of the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (VACDL), and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).
Active in his legal community, Mr. Mersberger served for many years as Committee Chair to the Alexandria Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service and he currently serves as the Policy Board Chair for the Alexandria Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP).
Mr. Mersberger earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law. Mr. Mersberger is admitted to the Virginia State Bar, as well as to the bars of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the United States Supreme Court.
